This unusual piece is vintage circa 1940s, although the ivory may have been carved earlier. The eyes are light red rubies and the bail is 14k yellow gold and is stamped as such. The figure measures 1 3/8 X 1 inches, not including the bail. It comes with a 14k yellow gold wire type chain. The information I was given about this figure is that the figure is Japanese and depicts a Noh theater character named Hannya. She is the embodiment of female rage and jealousy and was spurned for another woman. Her rage gives her magical powers. She is often depicted in Japanese obi sash pieces and the like. Pretty cool! |
