This handsome pocket watch is antique circa 1890s. I had it opened and looked at by a man who specializes in watches and he told me it was 800 silver, 7 to 9 jewels with a swiss movement and circa 1890s. Since I know next to nothing about pocket watches, I am taking his word for this. I thought it was pretty and bought it. It measures 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches, including the stem and loop at the end. The crystal is glass and the face is silver with bright gold ornamentation, the face could use a bit of a cleaning. The watch runs well and has an unsual system for setting the time, there is a button on the top and to the side of the stem that you have to push down very firmly and then use the stem to set the time. This has to be done simultaneously.
The watch face and crystal are not cloudy as it appears in the photo, this is light reflection off the glass. |
